Introducing 55km runner Lukas Naegele from Germany

Next runner to introduce is Lukas Naegele from Germany, who was last year 8th at the Trailrunning World Championchips in Slovenia and got there bronze with his team.  Lukas has also been third at the Trans Alpine in year 2015. His PB marathon time is 2:26:34, ran at the Freiburg marathon in April 2017.

How long have you been running?

I started running at the age of 12 with short- and middle-distances. Later I got into marathon running. Since 2015, trail running has been my main sport.

What do you like about trail running and what does it mean to you?

At normal marathons, you mostly run against time. Compared to that, trail running is more like a lifestyle and a sport, which brings me freedom and the possibility to move in the most beautiful places in a minimalistic way. One can forget all troubles and stress and just to enjoy the moment. If I had to encapsulate trail running in three words they would be natur, happiness and freedom.

What made you sign up at NUTS Ylläs Pallas?

I am constantly looking for new challenges and as my girlfriend Maria Koller and I heard about this race through a friend, we knew we wanted to be a part of it. The beauty of the nature in Lapland and the location in the middle of nowhere fascinate me and I am really looking forward to it. This is also a reason to like trail running: it is an expedition to places which remind us about the uniqueness of our planet over and over again.
