Weather Forecasts

NUTS Ylläs Pallas takes place in July, in the middle of Lapland’s summer. Although many think of Lapland as cool, the weather in the fells can be surprisingly warm. For example, in 2025 temperatures rose to as high as +30°C, adding a completely new – and for many, challenging – element to trail running.

Weather in the fell area can change quickly. Morning coolness, midday heat, afternoon thunderstorms, and windy ridges can all occur on the same day. That’s why it’s worth monitoring the weather actively during the event week – and also on race morning.

How to prepare for heat?

Hot weather significantly increases physical strain. Here’s how to prepare:

  • Hydration in advance – Start drinking before the start. Make use of all aid stations along your route and carry enough fluids with you.
  • Electrolytes – Water alone is not enough in hot conditions; salts help prevent cramps.
  • Start slowly – Adjust your pace from the beginning in hot weather.
  • Headgear and sun protection – A cap or other headgear and sunscreen are important in the open fells.
  • Listen to your body – Dizziness, nausea, and chills can be signs of heat exhaustion.

What if the weather changes?

Even on a hot day, it can get very windy in the fells, and temperatures can drop quickly. Mandatory gear is not unnecessary – it’s for your safety.
